This document is a manifesto detailing an artistic process called Momentism that Tim Nerheim-Chereck identified and began to expand upon in early 2020. Extensive research, experimentation, and debate over a five-year period eventually led to the founding of the Momentist Art Movement on December 18th, 2024.

The Momentist art movement requires an artist to attempt to represent, in one sitting, the moment in time they are experiencing during the execution of a work of art.

A Momentist artist either begins with or discovers an emotion or specific thought during the creation of the work and holds that state through the entire moment of execution. The work is completed after the moment is over, either via successful execution of the work or the fact that the emotion or thought has passed.

Momentism is an attempt to pause, center the artist, and forcefully recognize and represent the urgency of the specific moment in time that a Momentist work is created.

Momentism is not forward- or backward-looking and is not an invitation to look somewhere else.

Momentism is the opposite of escapism and is aware, present, inward-looking, and requires a self-forced discovery of the artist's own inner perspective of the subject matter during the moment of creation.

Momentism is not random but entirely intentional. Though the process of initiating a Momentist work may in fact be intuitive in nature, the ultimate goal of a Momentist is to convey something specific and force its representation in one sitting via the chosen medium.

At the foundation of Momentism is the recognition of our moment in time and all the unique nuances of our current existence. The inherent relevance of the specific moment in time that a Momentist work is executed may lend relevance to the recording of exactly when and where it was created.

Momentism is a framework based on process rather than a specific art form, style, or aesthetic. A Momentist work of art does not require an expectation of a finished product by the artist. There is no specific medium or preparation required to successfully execute a Momentist work.
